This year, National Teacher Appreciation Week<\/strong> is May 8th<\/sup> \u2013 May 12th<\/sup>, and National Teacher Appreciation Day<\/strong> is Tues., May 9th<\/sup>.\u00a0 529 Day<\/strong> (529 college savings plans<\/strong>) is Mon., May 29th<\/sup>.\u00a0 These 2 financial awareness topics are very important for several reasons, so let\u2019s explore those a bit more.<\/p>\n

If you, your children, and your grandchildren have had teachers who were instrumental in your\/their education, then you know why great teachers are so important.\u00a0 They can make learning fun and change a child\u2019s life for the better, and that is huge.\u00a0 Make sure to thank those teachers who do their job so very well, and not just during Teacher Appreciation Week<\/strong><\/a><\/span> \u2013 they deserve it.<\/p>\n

Teachers are a large part of our business (we are a 403(b)<\/strong> provider for both Dallas Area & Wyoming Valley West school districts) and we just wanted to say, \u201cthank you for all that you do\u201d \u2013 that\u2019s why we enjoy taking care of your 403(b)\/retirement\/tax\/financial needs.<\/p>\n

529 Day<\/strong> is a yearly reminder for those with children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, etc. that saving for college is a smart decision, especially when considering the many benefits of these 529 plans<\/strong> (these can vary from state-to-state).\u00a0 Many who would like to send children to college\/trade schools (yes, some of these plans can be used for trade schools as well) realize that the cost will be quite substantial – that\u2019s why raising awareness of these plans\u00a0is so important.\u00a0 A recent study has shown that only 28% of Americans know about 529 plans<\/a><\/span><\/strong>, and that statistic needs to change for the better.<\/p>\n

We have many clients who are saving for their children\u2019s and grandchildren\u2019s college costs with 529 plans<\/strong>, and many more I\u2019m sure will also do the same going forward.\u00a0 We would like to thank those clients as well \u2013 those plans you opened for your children\/grandchildren show that you care so much about their future education and want what\u2019s best for them.<\/p>\n

These two May \u201917 financial awareness topics are interrelated \u2013 they both deal with the area of education.\u00a0 It is one of the most important things we can do in life \u2013 educate ourselves and those we love as best as possible to prepare them for what life has in store for them.<\/p>\n

I\u2019ve always said the 2 most important things in life we can learn about is<\/p>\n

  1. how to successfully communicate\/deal with people, and<\/li>\n
  2. how to properly handle personal financial matters.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    So this goes out to all of the teachers and adults who try to better the children of tomorrow for when they become adults themselves \u2013 thank you for caring enough \u2026we appreciate what you do every single day<\/u>, not just in May.<\/p>\n
